Jerry Harris, the 21-year-old star from Netflix’s docuseries Cheer, is being investigated by the FBI for allegedly soliciting sex and sexually explicit photos from minors, USA Today reports. Agents searched Harris’ home in Naperville, Ill. on Monday afternoon, according to the report.

An FBI spokeswoman told the newspaper that there was “court-authorized law enforcement activity in the area,” but did not give further details.

The investigation into Harris is based on allegations of “inappropriate sexual contact” that were reported to police by Varsity, a private company and major player in the cheerleading industry, according to USA Today. Varsity sent letters to law enforcement in Texas and Florida on Aug. 1, describing the allegations.

On social media, Harris described himself as working for the National Cheerleaders Association, a Varsity brand, as a coach in the association’s camps in May 2019.

Harris has not been criminally charged, reports USA Today.

“As a result of the recent allegation, we have barred this person from having any affiliation with Varsity Brands or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates, now and in the future,” Varsity’s chief legal officer wrote in letters to law enforcement.

Cheer chronicled the journey of cheerleaders from Navarro College in Corsicana to earn a national title. Released in January on Netflix, the show received six Emmy nominations.

Harris became the show’s fan-favorite and joined Oprah Winfrey onstage at American Airlines Center in February. He also interviewed celebrities on the red carpet of the Oscars for The Ellen DeGeneres Show and filmed a short video with former Vice President Joe Biden. With over a million followers on Instagram, Harris has partnered with with brands including American Eagle, Panera Bread and Schmidt’s deodorant.
